3 Candles was recorded live- with a Beyerdynamic 88 microphone on the vocals.
The microphone was stolen a few years ago and that’s a shame. It’s an amazing microphone, especially for female voices.
This recording was made with two microphones recording the room, and a mic on Bob’s cello in addition to his electric pick ups. And a direct to the board with his Roland Jazz Chorus amp. This is a analog recording- on reel to reel tape. You might here the fire in the recording engineers fireplace in the background.
Each song was recorded in one take. No punch-in’s or stopping; much like one would record a chamber orchestra. The recording engineer, Michael Haumausser at Not Noise studio is a very patient man and makes a very good cup of tea.
Vishnu’s Secret began when childhood friends and collaborators Aimee Page and Bob Burns decided to write a song for a talent show. They were prolific from the beginning, writing many dozens of songs.
Primarily focused on live performances, they have released 4 albums, with many songs remaining to be recorded.
They have recorded as a duet, with a full band, and as a trio with saxophonist, James Garrison.
